Poisoned Waters: A Clash of Empire

advanced crisis

The year is 1230 BCE, and a grave crisis unfolds as there is suspension that a member of the Hittite empire has poisoned the Nile, the lifeblood of Ancient Egypt. This malicious act threatens Egypt’s agricultural backbone and the health of its people, triggering widespread unrest. Meanwhile, the Hittites stand at a pivotal moment, currently facing a bold accusation that could reshape the balance of power in the region.

Delegates, you will assume the roles of key figures from both the Egyptian court and the Hittite leadership, including high priests, viziers, military commanders, and influential innovators. Your challenge is to navigate this escalating crisis as tensions rise and stakes grow higher. Will the Egyptians seek diplomatic negotiations for an alleged antidote from the Hittites, or will they rally their forces for a decisive military campaign? Will the Hittites use this turmoil to expand their influence, or negotiate terms to prevent further bloodshed? Both empires must grapple with public sentiment, resource scarcity, and the potential for betrayal.

As you deliberate, be prepared to confront the complexities of this conflict, as your decisions will shape the future of both Egypt and the Hittite Empire, determining whether peace or war will prevail. The fate of nations hangs in the balance, and your choices will echo through history.

Isabella Gualtieri

(she/her)

My name is Isabella Gualtieri, and I am currently in my first year at Dalhousie University, where I am pursuing a double major in History and Political Science. Just last year, I graduated from Marianopolis just last year and had the incredible honour of serving as MariMUN’s USG Crisis. Now, I am absolutely thrilled to return – this time as a chair! My best piece of advice for all delegates is to challenge yourself: try something new every committee session. Each is a chance to step outside of your comfort zone. See you soon!.
