Games of change: Preserving the Integrity of the Olympics

Specialized agency

The Olympics are a topic of fascination for our planet’s population and for companies that have gained a lot of profit from this enormous worldwide investment. However, behind the media’s coverage of victorious athletes, the Olympics are fraught with injustice and controversy. The Ethics Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) plays a critical role in safeguarding the integrity and reputation of the Olympic Games.

At MariMUN 2025, delegates will debate the measures needed to preserve the integrity of the Olympics amidst challenges such as doping, corruption, athlete exploitation, and the influence of politics on sports. Delegates are encouraged to reflect on how athletes’ mental and physical health is at risk and how it can be protected, as well as how the IOC should react to legal violations by athletes and nations.

I am currently a first year student at Concordia University completing my undergrad. I plan on pursuing a career in law later on. I was first introduced to Model UN my first year of Marianopolis and it has left me with so many amazing memories. I had the pleasure of serving as the Director of Communications and the USG of Marketing and PR in 2023-2024 and being an international delegate in Taiwan. Model UN has allowed me to develop many skills, such as collaboration and problem solving, all while being able to keep an open mind. It has allowed me to broaden my horizons when it comes to the current socio-political state of the world. Model UN has not only taught me about diplomacy and the intricacies of the political world, but through it I have been able to forge relationships that will last and has helped me grow as a person. The skills learnt through MUN are some of the most important you can have and the people you meet are unforgettable.

I’m currently a first year law student at Université de Montréal and I had the opportunity to serve as last year’s USG of General Assemblies and Specialized Agencies. I first came to learn about Model UN at Marianopolis in my first year, being able to learn the ins and outs of diplomacy, collaboration and problem solving. MariMUN gave me the chance to attend Harvard’s WorldMUN in Taiwan last year, allowing me to create memories that will last a lifetime. Opening my mind up to the political, social, and economic world we live in has been such a rewarding experience. International diplomacy is a skill that will be forever important in our society, more so today than ever.
